Many, many thanks for the invite from @eastbrotherbeer to attend their first ever Pride & Purpose Beer Festival, benefitting the @rosie_the_riveter_trust.

The best part? It was a lager festival, with the vast majority of beers poured being of the lager variety. To say it was tremendous would be an understatement. So many quality lagers from the likes of @origin.brewer @fieldworkbrewingco @russianriverbrewingofficial @hereticbrewing @21stamendment @henhousebrewing and on and on and on.

And dark lagers! Everywhere dark lagers! And all amazing!

The VIP session started things off with a discussion about lagers and craft malting with beer writer extraordinaire @jeff.alworth and @admiralmaltings own Ron Silberstein. A spirited talk about the dimensions locally grown and kilned barley can add to all beer, but can especially be showcased in a clean, crisp lager.

The weather was perfect, the bands were great, and the beer was phenomenal. Add some great food trucks, as well, and days don't get much better.

Congrats to East Brother for a very successful first run. Already looking forward to next year!

Cheers, y'all! 🍻🍻

Welcome to the latest in an ongoing series of why it's so friggin' awesome to live in the Bay Area.

Traveled a short 30-ish minutes to @caymussuisun, the new Suisun Valley outpost from Napa Valley's famous @caymuscab.

It was, in a word, amazing.

The floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and wide-opening panels blur indoors and out, allowing the valley breezes to swirl through the space. The airiness continues through the layout, where tables, couches, and lounging areas were deftly arranged to maintain the sense of openness, even when crowded.

And $25 is a screaming deal to taste wines of such quality. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover their many second labels, which are bargains in their own right. We took home several, and the tasting fees are waived with a minimum purchase.

And they send you on your way with a free shot of espresso. Genius.

Even though tasting reservations are pretty much required, they also have a separate wine bar area with no appointment needed where you can just grab a glass, hang out, and enjoy the expansive views.

Bottom line, if you want a Napa-quality experience without fighting the masses or spending the $$$, run to Caymus Suisun immediately. We were so impressed, in fact, that we were bummed to learn they do NOT have a wine club, which is pretty much unheard of anymore. No matter, we'll be ordering often, which will give us more excuses to stop by!

Cheers, y'all! 🍷

Just back from a nice visit with the in-laws at my wife's old stomping grounds in NE Nebraska. Finally got in to see the brewery that sort-of recently opened in her hometown -- @johnniebyrdbrewingco in Wayne.

Cool little space they carved out of a former firehouse, with plenty of outdoor seating, as well. The brewery is named after the founder's grandfather, who was a big-band leader back in the day.

The standout was the Right-Rudder Bohemian Pils, crisp and snappy, with kind of a white-pepper cracker thing going on. Very nice for the warm, humid days here.

Other highlights include the tables, all laminated with copies of vintage Wayne Herald newspapers. We spent quite a bit of time looking over the old headlines.

Kudos to them for a very unique beer club, as well -- the Tap 7 club. A one-time fee gets you your own glass, which entitles you to exclusive access to a special edition brew pouring out of tap 7. It's a tiny batch (6 gallons), released every Thursday, available for $4 exclusively to club members until it kicks. If you're lucky, it might last the weekend.

If beer's not your thing, they also offer a small-ish cocktail menu. For those not imbibing, they also make their own root beer and other sodas.

Wayne's a college town, so I'm sure this has become a welcome hang-out for the students (and most certainly the faculty!). 😜

Cheers, y'all!
