Beer Camp ’12 Oatmeal Stout

October 14, 2012 by Deano

Beer Camp '12 Oatmeal StoutStyle:  Oatmeal Stout
Brewery:  Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, CA
ABV:  9.0%

Another in the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp series, this is desert in a glass.  You might want to keep a flashlight handy, as this inky-black brew will suck the light out of the room.  The nose is sweet, with caramel, molasses, maple, and chocolate.

The texture is pure velvet, silky smooth on the tongue, with a very round and viscous mouthfeel.  It tastes of cocoa, licorice, vanilla, and cream, with very little bitterness.  The smoothness masks its 9.0% alcohol very well.  If you like your stouts on the sweet side, this hits the mark.

This is indeed a treat.  I would say this would make an excellent stout float, but why cut a great beer with ice cream?
