San Francisco, CA (June 17, 2020) – Anchor Brewing Company, America’s first craft brewery, is supporting the building of specially adapted custom homes for 4 severely injured post-9/11 Veterans through Homes For Our Troops, a national nonprofit that helps veterans rebuild their lives. Anchor donated a fixed sum to each Veteran that will be used to transform their homes to meet accessibility needs. This summer, you can support our Veterans by drinking Liberty Ale®, Anchor’s celebrated, patriotic beer that kicked off the modern American IPA revolution.
Veterans who benefited from the donation include a Marine Staff Sergeant from South Florida, a Marine Corporal from Southern California, an Army Staff Sergeant from Northern California and an Army Sergeant from Central Texas. Each of the nonprofit’s custom homes for injured Veterans is equipped with over 40 major special adaptations and exceeds ADA compliancy standards, providing full accessibility for the Veteran.
Anchor Brewing Company’s Liberty Ale®, the first modern American IPA after Prohibition and the first modern American single-hop ale and dry-hopped ale, was brewed to commemorate the start of the American Revolution, but ultimately kickstarted a brewing revolution itself. It was first brewed in 1975 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s historic midnight ride during the American Revolutionary War. Liberty Ale’s label presents an American Eagle clinging to hops and barley with lettering reminiscent of an eighteenth-century typeface. While India Pale Ales have a long history overseas, the first American version began with Liberty Ale. It took a relatively new hop variety, Cascade, and used it for dry hopping – the process of adding more hops in secondary fermentation to amplify hop aroma to the beer. Liberty Ale’s result teemed with citrus and floral aromas that the American brewing industry had never experienced. Today, IPAs across the country follow suit with heavy hop aromas and flavors that Americans know and love. Liberty Ale is a patriotic beer with a spirit of innovation that has carried for now 45 years.
Raise a glass of Liberty Ale and support our troops this summer. Liberty Ale is available on draught at select bars, restaurants, and stores as well as at Anchor Public Taps and the Anchor Brewing Taproom in San Francisco. You can find a brew near you by using the Anchor Beer Finder.

About Anchor Brewing Company
Anchor Brewing Company’s roots date back to the California Gold Rush making it one of America’s oldest breweries. Its Anchor Steam® Beer is San Francisco’s original since 1896. In 1965, Fritz Maytag acquired and revived the struggling brewery at a time when mass production of beer dominated and seemed unstoppable. Maytag started a revolution in beer that originated today’s craft beer movement. An undisputed icon, Anchor is America’s first craft brewery where beers are handmade in our traditional copper brewhouse from an all-malt mash. At Anchor, we practice the time-honored art of classical brewing, employing state-of-the-art methods to ensure that our beers are always pure and fresh. We know of no brewery in the world that matches our efforts to combine traditional, natural brewing with such carefully applied, modern methods of sanitation, finishing, packaging and transporting.
